HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

I have the HP Smart app on my computer to enable me to scan using my printer.  I have been using this app for several years no without problem.  Today, when I opened the app to scan something, it briefly gave me the menu, but gave me a message that I needed to enable network permission to use HP Smart with my printer.  What's going on?  I need to get some documents scanned.

Hi @Richard3388,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the HP Smart app is asking for network permissions, which it may need to properly communicate with your printer. This could happen due to a software update or a change in settings. Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue:

Enable Network Permissions:

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to Settings within the app (usually by clicking on the gear icon).
  • Look for Network Permissions or Allow network access for the printer.
  • Ensure that the necessary permissions are enabled.

Check Printer's Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is still connected to the same network as your computer.
  • On your printer's display, go to the Wi-Fi settings and verify that it is connected to the correct network.

Restart Your Devices:

  • Restart your printer, computer, and router. This can help reset network connections and clear up any temporary issues.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • If the above steps don’t work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app.
    • To uninstall, go to Settings > Apps on your computer, find HP Smart, and uninstall it.
    • Then, download and install the latest version of HP Smart from the Microsoft Store or HP's website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
