HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Every time I attempt to scan using HP Smart the scan fails and just says there was a problem?  This can happen multiple times before I manage to scan.  Does anyone know if this is an issue with HP Smart or is it a deffective device?

Im thinking of just downloading the driver and getting rid of HP smart as I have a feeling it is the cause and is not stable or reliable Thanks

Hi @PaulC59,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing issues with scanning using the HP Smart app on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e, there could be several causes, ranging from software issues with the HP Smart app to potential hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware

  • Update HP Smart: Ensure you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app. Check for updates in your app store and install them.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. You can do this via the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.
    • On the printer, go to the settings menu and look for updates.

2. Check Scanner Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app and go to the scan settings.Ensure that the settings are configured correctly (e.g., resolution, color mode, etc.).
  • Sometimes, incorrect settings can cause the scan to fail.

3. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.A weak or unstable network connection can cause scanning issues.Try restarting your router and reconnecting your printer and computer to the network.

4. Reinstall HP Smart

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer or mobile device.Download the latest version from the HP website or your app store and reinstall it.

5. Use the Windows Built-In Scanning Tool (Windows Only)

  • You can use the built-in Windows Fax and Scan tool or the Windows Scan app as an alternative to HP Smart.
  • Windows Fax and Scan:
    • Press Windows + S and type "Windows Fax and Scan".
    • Open the app and select "New Scan" from the toolbar.
  • Windows Scan App:
    • Download and install the Windows Scan app from the Microsoft Store.
    • Open the app and follow the prompts to scan your document.

6. Install Basic Driver

  • If you suspect that HP Smart is the issue, you can install the basic printer driver and use another software to scan.Go to the HP Support website and download the basic driver for your OfficeJet Pro 9022e.
  • Install the driver and use an alternative scanning tool like Windows Fax and Scan, or a third-party application like VueScan.

7. Check for Hardware Issues

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
