Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Smart has stopped being able to "save" scanned images. When the "save" button is pressed HP Smart simply closes down. Any ideas how to correct?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

  • What have your tried so far to fix the problem?
  • Is it a new problem?
  • When did it start?  For example, were there changes on your computer?  Updates?  Different folders?  Startup problems?

For example,

If you have not done so,

  • Restart everything, including the router that controls your network
  • Check / Update the Firmware
  • Open Settings > Apps > Apps and Features > HP Smart > menu > Advanced > Reset the application (removes the usage data)  HP_Smart_Win_Apps-and-Features_ Reset_2HP_Smart_Win_Apps-and-Features_ Reset_2
  • If Reset does not help, Uninstall the app > Restart the computer > "Get" a new copy of the app from  Microsoft Store
  • Check the permissions on the destination folder -- Try a different destination folder
  • Try using HP Scan (part of the full driver printer software).  Note that while this does not fix HP Smart, using HP Scan -- assuming it is installed and working -- provides a reasonable alternative to the HP Smart application.  9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_More_Destination_79025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_More_Destination_7

Less likely, though it can impact the overall performance:

  • Make sure all devices that employ (use) HP Smart (both Mobile and Windows) have the latest version of HP Smart installed for the Operating System.
  • Make sure there are not waiting / pending / or needed Windows Updates that need to be installed

Thank you for the response. Uninstalling HP Smart, restarting PC and, reloading from the Microsoft Store seems to have cured the problem. Thank you.
