Hi @JASWANTH084

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing that—and I’m sorry you’re facing scanner error 22 on your HP LaserJet Pro M1213nf. It’s incredibly frustrating when a multifunction printer suddenly stops scanning, especially when everything else seems to be working fine.

This error typically points to a scanner initialization failure, often caused by a temporary hardware miscommunication or firmware issue. Let’s walk through a few steps that may help resolve it:

1. Perform a Power Reset

This clears internal memory and resets the scanner mechanism.

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait at least 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

This simple reset often restores scanner functionality.

2. Update the Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause scanning errors, especially if the device hasn’t been updated in a while.

  • Visit the HP M1213nf firmware and driver page.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update for your operating system.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions carefully during installation.

3. Check for Mechanical Obstructions

Open the scanner lid and gently inspect the scanner bar and glass area.

  • Make sure there’s no dust, debris, or paper fragments blocking the scanner path.
  • Avoid touching the scanner bar directly—use a soft, lint-free cloth if cleaning is needed.

4. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

If the error persists after these steps, the issue may be hardware-related—such as a scanner motor or sensor fault.

You deserve a reliable, fully functional device, and I’ll do everything I can to help you get there.
