I cannot figure out why my 9010 will not scan.  It has worked and now I am using it with a direct connection with a USB cable.

Any ideas?

@Ryan406, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP OfficeJet 9010 USB Connection Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems that your HP OfficeJet 9010 printer is not scanning when connected via USB. Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Common Setup Issues:

  1. Disconnect USB Cable: Disconnect the USB cable from both the computer and the printer.
  2. Uninstall and Reinstall Software: Uninstall the HP printer software and then reinstall it. This can often resolve connectivity issues.
    • To Uninstall Software:
      • Open the Windows control panel and double-click "Add or Remove Programs."
      • Select "HP Officejet 9010 All-in-One Driver Software," and then click "Change/Remove."
      • Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall process.
      • Restart your computer.
    • To Reinstall Software:
      • Insert the product CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive and start the Setup program.
      • Follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the software.
  3. Power Cycle: Restart your printer and computer.
  4. Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the computer and the printer.

Enable Scan to Computer Setting:

For USB-connected printers, ensure that the Scan to Computer setting is enabled in HP Printer Assistant for Windows.

  1. In Windows, search for and select the name of your printer, such as OfficeJet 9010, to open HP Printer Assistant.
  2. Click Print, Scan & Fax > Scan.
  3. From the scan settings, click Manage Scan to computer > Enable.

Check Printer Settings:

  1. Verify Connection: Make sure the cables are properly connected and the printer is powered on.
  2. USB Cable: Use a USB cable of less than 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length.
  3. Test Connection: Plug the USB cable into different ports on your computer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
