Hi @roycepop,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When a document gets stuck in the feeder of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-In-One Printer and it doesn't cause an obvious jam, it can be tricky to locate and retrieve. Here are the steps you can take to find and recover the document:

Step 1: Turn Off the Printer

  1. Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Disconnect: Disconnect any cables connected to the printer.

Step 2: Inspect the Document Feeder

Open the Document Feeder:

  • Lift the document feeder cover to access the inside.
  • Look inside the feeder to see if you can spot the document.

Remove Any Visible Paper:

  • If you can see the document, gently pull it out in the direction it normally feeds to avoid tearing it.

Step 3: Check the Scanner Bed

  1. Lift the Scanner Lid:
    • Open the scanner lid to check if the document has somehow slipped into the scanner bed area.
  2. Inspect the Area:
    • Look carefully around the edges and underneath the scanner bed for any signs of the document.

Step 4: Access the Rear of the Printer

Open the Rear Access Door:

  • Open the rear access door of the printer to check for any paper that might be stuck inside.

Check Inside:

  • Look inside the printer for any paper remnants or signs of the document.

Step 5: Remove the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)

Remove the ADF:

  • If you still can't find the document, you may need to remove the ADF. Consult the printer’s manual for instructions on how to safely remove the ADF unit.

Inspect the Feeder Mechanism:

  • Check the entire feeder mechanism for the document. Use a flashlight to help you see better.

Step 6: Use the Printer’s Cleaning Utility

  1. Run Cleaning Cycle:
    • After reassembling the printer, power it back on and run a cleaning cycle to ensure there are no obstructions left in the feeder path.

Step 7: Contact HP Support

  1. Seek Professional Help:
    • If you still cannot locate or retrieve the document, it may be necessary to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid Using Force: When trying to remove the document, avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the printer’s internal components.
  • Refer to the Manual: Always refer to the printer's user guide for specific instructions related to maintenance and troubleshooting.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
