I suggest you install the driver and connect the printer to check if that fixes the issue.

Thanks for your reply,  I use a wireless connection.  Odd feature:  The printer is connected (somehow) wirelessly because if I load a document in the print queue, reboot the computer, it spits out a printed page during the restart process.
