Hi @Jann-Tech,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the HP scanning software on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130 printer, where the HP Scan app hangs and then shuts down. Error code 45 and the suggestion from HP Print and Scan Doctor to use the Windows Scan app further complicate things.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Uninstall and Reinstall HP Scan Software

  • Uninstall: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, find the HP scanning software, and uninstall it.
  • Reinstall: Download the latest full-feature software and drivers from the HP website for your printer model and install them.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your Windows OS is up to date. Sometimes, missing updates can cause compatibility issues with software.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software to check if they are blocking the HP Scan app from running. Remember to re-enable them after testing.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Again

  • Although you've already run this tool, it might be worth running it again after reinstalling the software. Let it fix any issues it finds.

Use Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Run the Printer troubleshooter to check for issues with the scanner.

Error Code 45 (Device Not Connected)

  • This error typically means that Windows does not detect your device correctly. Try the following:
    • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer (via USB or network).
    • Disconnect and reconnect the printer.
    • Restart both the printer and the computer.

Check Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager and look for any devices listed under "Imaging devices" or "Other devices" that have a yellow exclamation mark. If you find any, right-click and try to update the drivers.

Try a Clean Boot

  • Perform a clean boot to eliminate possible software conflicts. Here's how:
    • Type msconfig in the search box and press Enter.
    • Go to the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services," and then click "Disable all."
    • Go to the Startup tab and click "Open Task Manager."
    • Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer and try running the HP Scan app again.

Alternative Scanning Methods

  • Since HP Scan isn't working, you might want to continue using the Windows Scan app temporarily until the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
