I am using HP Smart 154.2.1075.0 and have the problem that generated PDF have a different page size than the scanned document.

This bug was already reported in 2021, when will a bugfix be available?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

HP Smart is well beyond that episode -- The bug impacted HP Smart Windows version 127.1.115.0

The hugely bloated PDF files were many times the normal size of the scanned content - 26.5 x 34.3 inches

The fix was (again, as I recall, it was a while ago) released toward the end of June 2021, possibly August.

I might search for my notes on it if it became a "thing to find".

Present Day...

In what way is the scanned content "Wrong" -

For example,

  • hugely bloated to giant page size
  • not bloated but not the size or shape you expect

True - Bugs can return in different forms.

I have not seen evidence of that so far -- were it to happen, someone would be the first to report it.

Perhaps scan a single document page that does NOT include any private information - save it.

Open the file in Adobe Reader -

Set the Page Size to "Actual"

What is the "Document Size"

Snip the print menu page and post it.

Example - May 2021 - HP Smart - PDF file scanned, saved, and opened in Adobe Reader - "The Bloat Bug"

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry for the accusation if this bug really was meant to be fixed.

Here you see the screenshots:

NOTE

If none of the following makes any difference, including (and importantly) testing other apps or software to scan - then perhaps try the modified printer reset.

You can even start with the reset - it's not tied to any type of job or configuration.

Important:

After the Reset, the printer does have to be able to find its way back onto the network - do not Reset the printer if you have had issues keeping the printer on the network.  It would just add more "to fix".

Step #2

------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK...

I don't see this as precisely the same issue -  The original bug created a bloated size PDF file of particular size.

Meh - Bugs are sneaky - might be a variant.

===========================================

Translated to measurements that make sense to me (Imperial), the your scan size is larger than one would expect when the original paper was scanned "at size" or even at the largest size supported on the printer hardware (Entire Scan Area).

279.4mm = 11.0 inches

395.8mm = 15.59 inches

Maximum flatbed scan size (metric)
216 to 297 mm
Maximum flatbed scan size (U.S. standard)
8.5 x 11.7 in

What to do?

Try scanning your test file (the single page document) using a different application or Software.

Suggestions:

Microsoft / Windows Scan - basic and fairly straight forward - get app from the  Microsoft Store

HP Scan - Part of the Full Solution Software

HP Universal Scan - Stand alone - Windows version and printer model compatible with your printer

Set the scan size to standard document size (A4)

If not available use "Entire Scan Area", though you will have to trim the content before you save as PDF.

Printer - Full Feature Software

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Reinstalling?

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.
  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

HP Universal Scan - Full Feature Software and Driver

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The HP Universal Scan Software places a new shortcut on the Desktop.

Self-named as "HP Scan"

(Original HP Scan software, installed as part of the full driver printer software, is named for the printer model.)

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

  • Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
  • HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
  • HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model
  • When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Or

Thanks for your detailed instructions! I made some experiments:

  1. Android HP Smart: Correct size
  2. HP Scan (from full feature package): Correct size
  3. Windows Scanner: PDF 2~4 times larger than original, dependent on resolution
  4. Windows Scanner (with full feature package drivers): Nearly correct size

Seems to be tricky... (Issue 3 already discussed in MS community.)

You are welcome.

I wish I better understood the fundamentals of the Laser printer hardware -

Unfortunately, my expertise with the model type is decades out of date.

I have been reminded more than once to not stray into this realm.

Should you see another Laser Printer Expert come in to comment, that's a hint that I might have missed something.

That said,

If the full solution software (HP Scan) and the HP Smart app -- particularly in the fussy Android environment - both work as expected, then I do wonder whether the Microsoft / Windows Scan application is mangling the output.

I do not have a solution for Microsoft apps -- they are native to Windows and not in our control.

It does seem odd -- Microsoft is generally on top of things of their own making.

Yes, "tricky" seems to be a good description.
