Printer won't copy, doesn't seem to recognize copy button being pushed

I am sorry to hear that your HP 6000 series printer is not responding when you attempt to use the copy function, I would request you to please follow the steps:

 

Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart.
  • This clears temporary button recognition errors.

Check Control Panel Buttons

  • Make sure the Copy Black and Copy Color buttons respond.
  • If they don’t, the issue may be with the control panel firmware.

Update Firmware

  • On the printer touchscreen: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
  • Install any available firmware updates these often fix copy function bugs.

Test Copy via HP Smart App

  • Install HP Smart on your phone or computer.
  • Use the Copy or Scan to Copy function in the app.
  • If this works, the issue is with the physical buttons, not the copy function itself.

Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  • On the printer: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Defaults.
  • This resets all settings, including button functions.
  • You’ll need to reconnect Wi‑Fi afterward.
