Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

According to every and I mean everything I have searched, I should be able to

load a legal size (8.5x14 inch) document into the ADF

insert a usb drive into the printer

select scan

tap settings

select legal size

tap the back arrow

tap scan

 

the printer should turn on the ADF, start feeding the paper and save to the usb drive.

I have tried this multiple times only to have the same result.  A circle starts spinning and never stops on the display. The ADF never starts. I have to unplug the printer to get it to stop.

 

What on earth am I doing wrong??
