I have never been able to get the Smart App to work with my HP 9020 printer.
And because of that, the printer is sketchy about connecting directly to my computer with a scan.  It works for a while, then I have to remove and add the printer back in to the computer before it will work again.
Printing isn’t usually a problem.

I have the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 and it worked great for printing and scanning and then as of last month I haven't been able to scan to the computer. HP Smart has trouble trying to log me in to my account and it won't let me scan anything unless I'm logged in. It says no network connection. I obviously have the internet, I can login thru the website but not the app. I've tried uninstalling both the app and the printer and NOTHING is working! I'm tired of spending hours trying to get it to work!!!!!

Yes, works. - OfficeJet Pro 9025 - USA

Some of the places to check / adjust the connection / setup...

If your router / network supports both 2.4GHz / 5GHz

Make sure the router is broadcasting on both 2.4GHz / 5GHz
Assign a separate SSID network name to each band

The password can be the same for both SSID networks

Connect the printer to the network you intend to use

Example

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_2SSID_Dual_Band_Example_2

Check / Adjust the connection in EWS

Consider using / assigning a Static / Manual IP address.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

----------------------------------------------------------------

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

And

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

In Advanced

Having named SSID / networks separately for each bandwidth at the router level,

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

Related to Wireless...

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless  (802.11) > Wireless Band Frequency

----------------------------------------------------------------

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Network Protocols > Select which protocol(s) to Enable

----------------------------------------------------------------

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Advanced Settings > SMB

Select both SMBv2 / SMBv3

Click Apply to save any changes

Change the connection type on the computer (to the printer) to TCP/IP

Method - Create TCP IP port

** Install – Optional - Port Issues - Create a TCP/IP port **

TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.

Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by  greenturtle:

  1. 1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
    2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
    3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
    4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:
Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)
