Try these steps:

Check for Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions or debris in the document feeder. Remove any documents and inspect the feeder for paper jams or blockages.

Correct Document Placement: Make sure that the documents are correctly placed in the feeder. They should be aligned properly and within the feeder's width guides.

Clean the Document Feeder: Clean the rollers and sensor in the document feeder. Dust and debris can sometimes cause scanning issues.

Restart the Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve any minor issues with the hardware. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.

Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with scanning.

Check Scanner Settings: Ensure the scanner settings in the HP software are configured correctly. The setting might be set to scan from the flatbed instead of the document feeder.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and resolve scanning issues. Download it from the HP website and run it to identify and fix the problem.
