How can I scan to my Chromebook from my M227 all-in-one?  I can print wirelessly to the printer but can't scan.  I have been unable to download the HP Smart app to my Chromebook.  I was able to download the HP Smart app to my windows computer and it will scan to it.

Hi @Roger481,

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you can print wirelessly from your Chromebook to your HP LaserJet M227, but you can’t scan because the HP Smart app isn’t available for your Chromebook. Let’s go through a few steps to set up scanning on your Chromebook.

Check Chromebook Updates
Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS.

Click the clock at the bottom right → Settings → About ChromeOS → Check for updates.

Install any updates and restart the Chromebook.

Confirm Printer is on the Same Network

On the printer’s control panel, print a Network Configuration Page or check Wireless Settings → Network Summary.

Ensure your Chromebook is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.

Use the Built-In Chromebook Scan App

On your Chromebook, click the Launcher (circle icon at bottom left) → search for Scan.

Open the Scan app (it’s built into ChromeOS on most models).

In the Scanner drop-down, select your HP LaserJet M227.

Adjust the scan settings (color, resolution, file type) and click Scan.

Access the Printer’s Web Page (EWS) for Scanning

On the printer’s control panel, note the IP address (found in Wireless settings).

Type the IP address into a web browser on your Chromebook to open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Go to the Scan tab → choose Scan to Computer/Device → save the scanned file to your Chromebook.

Enable Webscan if Needed

If you don’t see scan options in the EWS, go to Settings → Security → Administrator Settings on the printer’s EWS page.

Enable Webscan.

Return to the Scan tab and try scanning again.

Use Google Drive or Email as a workaround.

If direct scanning is still unavailable, use the printer’s Scan to Email or Scan to Cloud (Google Drive) features from the printer’s control panel.

This lets you access scanned documents on your Chromebook via email or Google Drive.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help.  HP's website does not have any help for Chromebook users.

Hi @Roger481,

Thank you for the update earlier! 😊

I’m glad we could go through those steps together. Just checking in, were you able to scan successfully using the Webscan method or the Chromebook Scan app after following the instructions?

If everything’s working fine now, that’s fantastic! 🎉

But if the issue still persists, please share a quick update, like whether your Chromebook supports Android apps or what happens when you try Webscan, so we can continue troubleshooting and get this fully resolved for you.

Looking forward to your reply! 🙌

Best regards,
