Using adf on hp photosmart 7520 to scan 4x6 photos. The jpeg scan always has a white edge on the right side. How can I adjust scanning for a 4x6 without the white edge?

I understand your HP Photosmart 7520 adding a white edge on the right side when scanning 4x6 photos through the ADF. Let’s go through a few checks.

Understand ADF Limitation

  • The ADF is designed for standard paper sizes, not photo sizes.
  • Small originals like 4x6 may not align perfectly in the feeder.
  • The scanner detects page width automatically.
  • Misalignment can cause extra white margins.
  • This behavior is normal when using ADF for small media.

Set Custom Scan Size in Software

  • Open the HP scanning software on your computer.
  • Select Scan.
  • Choose Advanced Settings or More Options.
  • Set paper size to 4 x 6 inches manually.
  • Disable Auto Detect Size if available.

Use Flatbed Instead of ADF (Recommended)

  • Open the scanner lid.
  • Place the 4x6 photo aligned with the corner guide.
  • Close the lid fully.
  • Select Photo Scan mode.
  • Scan and verify edges are correct.

Adjust Scan Area Manually

  • In the scan preview window, select Crop.
  • Drag the crop box tightly around the photo.
  • Remove excess white area manually.
  • Confirm crop selection.
  • Complete the scan.

Check ADF Guides

  • Load photos centered in the ADF tray.
  • Adjust the side guides snugly against the photo.
  • Ensure the photo is straight before feeding.
  • Avoid mixing different sizes in one batch.
  • Test with one photo at a time.

I hope this helps.
