When you're facing issues with scanning to your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer while still being able to print, it suggests a problem with the scanner's connectivity or configuration rather than a complete hardware failure. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve this issue:

Check the Scanner Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your laptop. If you're using a wireless connection, verify that both devices are connected to the same network. For a wired connection, check that the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop.

Update Printer Drivers and Software:

  • Visit the HP website and navigate to the support section for your printer model.
  • Download the latest drivers and software for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  • Install the updates, following the on-screen instructions.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP offers a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and resolve scanning and printing issues.
  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix scanning issues.

Enable Scan to Computer:

  • Sometimes, the "Scan to Computer" feature might be disabled.
  • Open the HP Printer Assistant on your laptop.
  • Navigate to the "Scan" section and look for a "Manage Scan to Computer" option.
  • Make sure "Enable" is selected.

Check the Scanner Software:

Check for Windows Updates:

Firewall/Antivirus Interference:

Reset the Printer:

  • A full reset of the printer can sometimes resolve elusive issues.
  • Disconnect the printer from power for about a minute.
