So I can print fine from my laptop to my printer but when I want to scan it doesn't seem to recognize the printer.  It says Scanner not connected.   I can scan if I log into HP and hit scan but I can't use the feed for multiple pages.   I have the USB cable plug into my laptop to my printer.   This all worked fine on my other laptop but not on the one I'm using now.

@Cathy241, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 Scanner Connection Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

There are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot the "Scanner not connected" issue for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer.

Check Connections: Ensure the USB cable connecting your printer to your laptop is securely plugged in. You might want to try a different USB port on your laptop or a different USB cable to rule out connection issues.

Restart Devices: Sometimes, restarting your printer and laptop can resolve connection problems. Turn off both devices, wait a few seconds, and then turn them back on.

Update Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. You can download the updated drivers from the HP support website.

Check Scanner Settings: Ensure that the scanner is set up properly in your printer settings:

  • Navigate to the "Devices and Printers" section on your laptop.
  • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 and select "Scanner Properties".
  • Ensure the scanner is configured correctly.

HP Smart App:

  • Sometimes using the HP Smart app can streamline the scanning process. Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or the HP website and attempt to scan from the app.

Use HP Scan and Capture App:

  • You can also use the "HP Scan and Capture" app available in the Microsoft Store. This application can help detect your scanner and facilitate scanning multiple pages.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
