Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

I scan using the HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series-HP Scan application. After completion i click save. Files pull open and then the application crashes losing the document that was scanned. It does the scanning, it just wont let me save it to my computer before closing. There is no error sign or message.

Hi @LegacyTrailsdds

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details so clearly. I completely understand how frustrating it must be to go through the scanning process only to lose the file when trying to save.

You've already done the right thing by identifying that the scan completes but the save action causes the application to close. Let's work through this together and get things back on track.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Restart your computer and printer

  • Power off your printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Restart your computer.
  • After a minute, plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Launch the HP Scan application again and try scanning and saving.

2. Check for Windows updates

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
  • Restart your computer after updates are installed.

3. Repair the HP Scan application

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Apps > Installed apps.
  • Locate HP Scan or HP Smart Tank Plus 650 series - HP Scan.
  • Click the three dots next to it and choose Advanced options.
  • Click Repair. If the issue persists, return and click Reset.

4. Try saving to a different location

  • When the save window opens, try selecting a different folder such as Documents or Desktop.
  • Avoid saving to network drives or external devices during testing.

5. Run HP Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Click on your printer, then go to Printer Settings or Tools.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix and follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Reinstall the HP Scan software

  • Press Windows + I > Apps > Installed apps.
  • Uninstall HP Scan.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Open the HP App, select your printer, and reinstall the scan functionality from there.

7. Check for background software conflicts

  • Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software.
  • Try scanning and saving again to see if the issue persists.

Once you've tried these steps, please test the scan and save process again. If the application still closes unexpectedly, let me know what happens during each step—especially if you notice any patterns or delays before the crash.

We'll keep working through this until it's resolved.
