HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 PCL-3 printer.  I cannot scan to computer now that I have gotten a new PC (Windows 11).  It is now connected by a USB cable.

I saw a response by Garp_Senchau to a similar question that read as follows:  (my questions are littered throughout the steps)

Uninstall Existing Printer Software

Would you please be specific about exactly what software should be uninstalled?  I only see HP Smart under programs, but there is an annoying web thing that pops up instead of the past interface on my computer.  I don’t know how to disable it or where.

Ensure HP Software is Properly Installed

There is a lot of software out there under that printer series on the support page.  Would you please be specific about exactly what software should be installed?  Please include the SCAN software as well.

Check Scanner Settings

Fair enough . . . I can do this.

Update Drivers Manually

Fair enough . . . I can do this.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Temporarily Disable Firewall/Antivirus & Reattempt Scanning

Fair enough . . . I can do this.

Open Services & Check Service Status

Fair enough . . . I can do this.

Run Test Scan using HP Printer Assistant Software & Check the Scan Process.

Where do I get HP Printer Assistant Software?

UPDATE:

Apparently the software did install, but the printer icon was only linked to the install file.

If I go in to settings and select open the printer app, I get HP smart.  But if i go to network in windows file explorer and click, I get the web thing.  This is needlessly confusing and complicated.  I assume I will have to create my own desktop shortcut.  And why is the computer listed twice?  The third is the scanner - that makes sense, but not the other one.

THAT being said . . . i prefer a wireless connection, but I believe that adobe scan requires a physical one.  Can I do both?

-------

After I installed the software, I restarted and started running the install as admin.  I got to the stage where it asked if i wanted to connect via usb, wireless, etc. or wait until later.  I clicked usb and got this screen.

I connected the USB cable but Back didn't seem right and Skip was grayed out.  I clicked the connect later box.  Then Skip was available.  It said the software was installed successfully, but your new HP device has not been connected.  It said to connect the device later, double-click the device icon on the desktop to open the device setup program.  Then I am back in the same boat.

This is not working.  I don't think we are communicating effectively.  I explained that I preferred wireless, but that adobe acrobat required a physical connection.  I don't need more boilerplate information - if that worked, I wouldn't be here. The pictures you are sending are not applicable to my computer and printer.  The pictures are larger than a page size so I can't really use them.  You are discontinuing the software that just worked. Flawlessly.  Nothing is working and I have spent 5 hours today trying to scan documents.  I don't have more time to waste.  Is there someone I could chat with in real time to get this resolved?  I understand that I am out of warranty but it is ridiculous that I can't even get help installing the printer on a new pc.

Oh please don't remove.  I'm sure they will benefit others.  Sometimes people just don't get what each others are saying.  You have made honest and repeated efforts.
