Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am advised by online tech support to reinstall all the drivers. I download the drivers recommended. I am then told to use the HP Easy Print installation process. The process starts then takes me to a page with no indication of next steps. I searched for phone numbers for HP printer support. The first one tried to sell me medicare supplement. The second claimed to be a technician. She had me download a program that let her access my PC. She found a long list of error message that she promised to fix if I paid a one-year fee of $199.00. When I explained that I couldn't afford that, she ended the conversation. I ran ESET to clean out anything she may have left on my PC. 

What is the problem with the HP Easy Print program? Why doesn't it get to a point where it actually installs software?
