Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am using an HP ProBook with Windows 7 64 bit.  The HP Scan defaults to my Deskjet 3755, but I wish it to default to the Envy 6455e.  How can I change it?  If I use the HP Smart app, the scanned document goes to my phone and not my laptop, thus I have to email it to myself to put it on my laptop.

Hi @rlucke,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To change the default scanning device from your HP Deskjet 3755 to your HP Envy 6455e on your Windows 7 64-bit computer, you'll need to modify the default printer settings. Follow these steps to make the change.

  • Ensure that your HP Envy 6455e is installed and connected to your computer. If you haven't installed the drivers and software for the Envy 6455e, you can download them from the official HP website and follow the installation instructions.
  • Click on the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your screen.
  • Go to "Control Panel."
  • In the Control Panel, find and click on "Devices and Printers."
  • You should see a list of installed printers and devices. Locate your HP Envy 6455e printer in the list. It may have a slightly different name, but it should be recognizable as the Envy 6455e model.
  • Right-click on the HP Envy 6455e printer and select "Set as default printer" from the context menu.
  • Windows will set the HP Envy 6455e as the default printer for all print-related tasks, including scanning.

Now, when you try to scan a document using the HP Scan software, it should default to your HP Envy 6455e. You can double-check the settings in the HP Scan software to make sure it is using the correct scanner. If the HP Scan software still doesn't work as expected, you may need to reinstall the drivers for the Envy 6455e or contact HP support for further assistance.

As for the HP Smart app sending scanned documents to your phone instead of your laptop, you can adjust this behavior within the app settings. Open the HP Smart app on your phone, go to the settings, and look for the option to change the destination of scanned documents. You should be able to select your laptop as the default destination for scanned files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The 6455e is my default printer.  There is no place in the HP Scan software to change the source printer for scanning.  The Smart Print s/w has no destination setting that I can find.  I suspect the HP Scan software only works with the 3700 printer as I shut down the 3700 printer hoping the software might search for the 6000 printer.  It returns an error message that it can't connect to the printer.

Can the Smart software be loaded on my laptop?
