Hi @abrahamk, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
For your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4303dw, let's troubleshoot the duplex printing and scanning issues separately.

1. Duplex (Back-to-Back) Printing Issue

Check Duplex Printing Setting

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your printer and select Printing Preferences
  • Look for Print on Both Sides (or Duplex Printing) and enable it
  • Click Apply and OK

Ensure Duplex Unit is Installed

  • In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer and select Printer Properties
  • Go to the Device Settings tab
  • Ensure Duplex Unit (for 2-sided printing) is set to Installed

Use the Correct Driver

  • If the duplex option is missing, update or reinstall the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) from HP’s official website.

Check Paper Type & Size

  • Some specialty papers (like transparencies or labels) do not support duplex printing.
  • Make sure the paper size is standard (A4, Letter, etc.).

Try a Different Application

  • If you are printing from a specific app (like a browser or PDF reader), try another app (Word, Notepad, etc.) to check if the issue persists.

2. Scanning Issue

Check HP Scan Software

  • Open HP Smart or HP Scan and ensure the scanner is detected.

Use the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) for Multiple Pages

  • If scanning multiple pages, place them in the ADF and select Document Feeder in the scan settings.

Try Scanning via Windows Tools

  • Open Windows Fax and Scan (Press Win + S, type "Windows Fax and Scan")
  • Click New Scan, select your printer, and try scanning.

Reinstall the Scanner Driver

  • Uninstall the printer from Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Download and install the latest drivers from HP's website
  • Restart the computer and try again.

Check Network or USB Connection

  • If scanning over Wi-Fi, ensure the printer and PC are on the same network.
  • If using USB, try another port or cable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
