Hi @Frankthevet,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties with using the scanner on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-In-One Printer. Let's try to troubleshoot the issue and see if we can resolve it.

Here are a few steps you can follow.

  • Check connections: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. Make sure all cables are securely plugged in and there are no loose connections.
  • Restart the printer and computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off your printer and computer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
  • Update printer drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause scanning issues. Visit the HP support website (https://support.hp.com) and search for the drivers and software for your specific printer model. Download and install the latest drivers and software available.
  • Check scanning software: Make sure you have the appropriate scanning software installed on your computer. HP printers usually come with scanning software that allows you to initiate and manage scanning operations. Check if the software is installed correctly, and if not, reinstall it from the HP support website.
  • Test with different scanning software: If the default scanning software is not working, try using an alternative scanning application. There are many free third-party scanning software options available online, such as Adobe Acrobat, NAPS2, or VueScan. Install one of these applications and see if you can scan using them.
  • Verify scanner settings: Ensure that the scanner settings are correctly configured. Open the scanning software and check the settings related to resolution, file format, destination folder, etc. Make sure they are set according to your requirements.
  • Perform a test scan: Use the scanning software to perform a test scan. Check if the scanner is able to detect the document or image correctly. If the issue persists, try scanning with different settings to identify if it's a specific configuration problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
