HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.14 Mojave

In setting up the Scan to Network Folder, the EWS is returning an error of "Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again."

I'm on a Mac, so I'm using the User (on the Mac) as the User Name in the EWS and the associated password.

Are there any restrictions about the format (e.g., includes symbols) of User Name and Password in EWS?

Do I need to include any path information (e.g., Domain or IP address) in the User Name?

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

Hi,

An incorrect user error unlikely to occur due to a wrong path usage, this will likely return a connection error.

Please open  System Preferences > Sharing and select File Sharing.

Click the options button and ensure that SMB is enabled and the user is checked in the table below to allow SMB access.
Also click the top Computer Name button and take a note of the computer name.

Also under File Sharing, ensure the required user is added with full permissions for your user.

Use the user and the password exactly as shown under users in your mac.

For the path, you may either use the IP or the computer name with .local prefix (e.g \\10.0.0.1\scan, or \\Shlomi_mac.local\scan as an example)

If further issues occur, I suggest making sure that both your Mac and Printer are up to date and check:

ShlomiL -

In System Preferences/File Sharing, I checked the SMB status for the shared folder. Both SMB and AFP are checked, but it does NOT allow me to check the user. Additionally, I confirmed that the user has full read/write permissions.

The user and password are both accurate.

My printer and laptop are both up to date.

Questions -

You give an example of 10.0.0.01/scan for the path. Does that assume you have a file named “scan” in the Users directory?

Will you give an example of a longer path such as to the Desktop?

Still not working. Still receiving error about incorrect credentials.

Many thanks,

LC

Hi LC,

The shared path will not involve the entire file system path, wherever the folder is located, as long as it is shared it should be the main share subfolder, it doesn't matter if this is on the Desktop, the Documents folder or in any other location on your Mac.

What do you mean by not able to select the user? may you show a screenshot?

You should be able to allow the user Windows File Sharing access, else the user will be rejected as you describe.

Please open System Preferences > Users & Groups and take a screenshot of the screen.

Next, open System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing and take a screenshot of this screen.

Finally, click the Options button and take a screenshot of this screen too.
