HP OmniStudio X 27 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cs0000 (9T0C8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When trying to scan, there is no option selection for PDF or JPG using HP smart or any other method of accessing the printer scanner. The scanner works fine on 2 different 11 year old desktops and 3 laptops, all HP. Have received nothing but a 6 hour runaround from HP and a phone operator who will not allow me to file a complaint but instead keeps routing me to technical support.

Hi @TRF2025

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when your HP OmniStudio X 27 All-in-One Desktop PC doesn’t offer PDF or JPG scan options—even though the scanner works fine on other devices.

Let’s walk through what’s happening and how you can restore full functionality.

Why Scan Format Options Are Missing

This issue is often linked to how HP Smart interacts with Windows 11. Recent updates have simplified the app interface, and some scan settings (like file format) may not appear unless certain services or drivers are properly installed and running.

Steps to Restore PDF and JPG Scan Options

1. Update HP Smart App

  • Open Microsoft Store > Library
  • Check for updates to HP Smart
  • Install the latest version

Newer versions hide scan format options inside the scan window itself.

2. Start a Scan to Reveal Format Options

  • Open HP Smart
  • Click Scan
  • In the scan preview window, look for:
    • File Type (PDF, JPG, PNG)
    • Resolution
    • Color/Grayscale
    • Save Location

These controls may appear on the right-hand side or under a “More” (⋯) menu.

3. Install Full Feature Software (If Available)

Some scan features require the full driver suite.

4. Check HP Digital Imaging Monitor

This background service enables scan options.

  • Navigate to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\digital imaging\bin
  • Run hpqste08.exe
  • Add it to Windows Startup folder to ensure it runs automatically

5. Try Windows Scan App

If HP Smart still doesn’t show formats:

  • Open Microsoft Store
  • Install Windows Scan
  • Launch the app and check for format options

If you'd like help locating the correct driver or verifying your scanner’s compatibility, I’d be glad to assist. Just let me know what you'd prefer.
