Hi @DaveCol1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP MFP M282-285 printer reinitializing while sending multiple pages via fax can be quite frustrating. This problem might be caused by various factors, including firmware issues, memory problems, or connection stability. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Update Firmware

Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. HP often releases firmware updates to fix bugs and improve performance.

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware for your printer.

Check Memory and Overhead

Sending multiple pages via fax requires sufficient memory and processing power. If the printer's memory is insufficient, it might cause reinitialization.

  • Reduce the number of pages being faxed at one time.
  • Check if the printer has any additional memory upgrade options.

Connection and Line Quality

Ensure that your phone line is stable and free from interference.

  • Use a different phone line or fax another number to see if the issue persists.
  • Check the phone line connection to ensure it is secure.

Reset the Printer

Perform a hard reset on your printer to clear any temporary issues.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Check for Overheating

Extended use or multiple processes running simultaneously can cause the printer to overheat and reboot.

  • Ensure the printer is placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Allow the printer to cool down between faxing large documents.

Fax Settings Adjustment

Adjusting the fax settings may help in reducing the load on the printer.

  • Lower the fax resolution to reduce the memory usage.
  • Disable ECM (Error Correction Mode) if enabled, although this may affect the quality of the fax.

Factory Reset

As a last resort, perform a factory reset on the printer. This will revert all settings to default, potentially clearing up any configuration issues.

  • Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on performing a factory reset.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP MFP M282-285 printer reinitializing while sending faxes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
