Hi @Prinny66

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how concerning it feels to see a message about the fax component being damaged, especially when you’re unsure if it’s something you can correct yourself or if it means an expensive repair.

Thank you for sharing the exact wording—it helps narrow down the situation.

Here’s what’s important to know:

  • The fax function in HP all‑in‑one printers relies on a dedicated hardware module inside the device. When the system reports that the fax component is damaged, it usually means the printer cannot communicate with that module.

  • In many cases, this is not something that can be corrected by reinstalling drivers or software—it points to a hardware fault.

  • You can still try a power reset (disconnect power for 60 seconds, reconnect directly to wall outlet) and check if the error clears. Also, confirm that the phone line is properly connected and working.

  • If the message persists, the fax hardware itself is likely failing. Printing and scanning functions often continue to work normally, so the device can still be used for those tasks.

Repairing or replacing the fax hardware is typically not cost‑effective compared to the overall value of the printer, especially since faxing is less commonly used today.

Most users continue using the printer for print/scan/copy and rely on digital fax services or scanning/email as alternatives.

Would you like me to share how to test whether print and scan functions are unaffected so you can keep using the device productively even if the fax module is no longer working?
