HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

My Envy 5055 all-in-one printer has suddenly changed to a very slow print speed to make black copies. It prints at normal speed when sent a print job from the computer. Re-booting it hasn't helped.

Hi @Evelyn95,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 5055 printer has suddenly slowed down when making black copies but prints at normal speed from your computer, it suggests that the issue may be specific to the copying function rather than general printing. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Copy Settings

  • Review Copy Settings: Ensure that the settings for copying are not set to a high-quality or detailed mode that might slow down the process. Adjust the settings to a standard or draft mode if possible.

2. Clean Print Heads and Cartridges

Perform Print Head Cleaning: Even though you’re copying in black and white, print head issues can affect overall performance. Perform a print head cleaning cycle through the printer’s settings menu:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead and follow the prompts.

Check Cartridges: Verify that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and have enough ink. Even if you’re copying in black, issues with the cartridges can affect performance.

3. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Inspect for Paper Jams: Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer that could be affecting its performance. Open the printer and check for any stuck paper or debris.

4. Update Firmware

  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer model. Firmware updates can address various performance issues:
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model to find and install any available updates.

5. Check Printer Settings

  • Reset Printer Settings: Sometimes resetting the printer settings to default can resolve issues. Look for an option to restore factory settings in the printer’s menu:
    • On the control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Settings.

6. Perform a Power Cycle

  • Power Cycle:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

7. Check Connection and Drivers

Verify Connections: Ensure that all cables and connections are secure, especially if the printer is connected to a computer or network.

Update Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

8. Test Copy Function with Different Documents

  • Try Different Documents: Test copying different documents to see if the issue persists across various types of content. This can help identify if the problem is related to specific document types or formats.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
