Hi @Enrico26

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To improve copy speed on your HP ENVY 4522, start by cleaning the scanner glass, checking copy quality settings, and performing a power reset. These steps help refresh the scanner mechanism and optimize performance.

Here’s a focused walkthrough to help your printer copy more smoothly again:

1. Clean the Scanner Glass and Lid

Dust or smudges can slow down scanning:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Open the scanner lid and gently clean the glass surface with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with glass cleaner.
  • Wipe the white underside of the lid as well.
  • Let it dry fully before powering back on.

2. Check Copy Quality Settings

Higher quality settings can slow down copy speed:

  • On the printer’s control panel, press Copy.
  • Tap Settings or Setup (depending on your model).
  • Set Quality to Draft or Normal instead of Best.
  • Try copying again and observe the speed.

3. Power Reset the Printer

This refreshes internal memory and scanner calibration:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Try copying a single page and compare speed.

4. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can affect scanner performance:

  • Visit the HP ENVY 4522 support page.
  • Select your operating system and download the latest firmware.
  • Follow the instructions to install it via USB or Wi-Fi.

5. Run a Copy Diagnostic

This checks for scanner alignment or mechanical lag:

  • On the printer control panel, press the Information and Cancel buttons together.
  • A Printer Status Report will print.
  • If the report prints quickly, the issue may be scanner-related rather than print-related.

6. Try Copying from the HP App

This can bypass local copy settings:

  • Open the HP App on your phone or computer.
  • Select your printer > Copy > choose Scan from Glass.
  • Set quality to Normal and try copying a page.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If it’s still slow, I can help you isolate whether it’s a scanner calibration issue or a deeper mechanical delay.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I  tried to follow the steps you sent me but was soon unable to continue .

Step 2. Check Quality Settings. after 'Tap Setup' there is no 'Quality' setting that appears on my printer.

I jumped ahead to Step 4. Update Firmware. The HP ENVY 4522 support page asks which

OS I have but there are only Windows OS to choose on the drop down menu. I have a Mac OS (Sequoia 15.7.2)

This is where I stopped.

Looking ahead in the instructions I see Step 5 involves a Copy Diagnostic process stating that I would press the Information and Cancel buttons together. The only 'button' on my printer is the Power On/Off button.

I tried making a copy using a very simple page of typed words using the Black print option. It took 4 minutes to copy. Not sure what to do now.

Hi @Enrico26,

Thank you for your response.

The link you sent instructed me to re-install HP Easy Start. I'm blocked at what I think is one of the final steps of the download. "HP Product Improvement Study is a research program that allows HP to improve products to better meet customer needs". I checked the box for - I primarily use HP Products and services In the home, for personal use. A rectangular box appears (blue & red lines) with a vertical line blinking. There's no instruction to tell me what I'm supposed to input here, therefore I cannot 'Continue'.

I cannot send the video I've taken on my iPhone and also find that my OS (macOS 26.2) isn't supported for my HP printer. This printer is probably too old and obsolete so I'll be looking for a new one that's compatible with my OS.
