The device, i.e. printer's printing is very light, no ink is on the paper.  Cartridges are new.  At first the message was to align.  Now no message.

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

 

If your HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer’s output is very faint and it previously displayed an alignment message, you can follow these steps to address the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Ensure the new cartridges are properly installed. Remove them and reinstall them, making sure they click securely into place.

2. Align the Printer

Even though the message to align is no longer appearing, you can manually align the printer.

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Click on your printer to access its settings.
  3. Select “Print Quality Tools” or "Printer Maintenance."
  4. Run the “Align Printhead” or "Align Printer" tool.

3. Clean Printheads

Printheads may need cleaning if the print is faint.

  1. From the same “Print Quality Tools” or "Printer Maintenance" section, select “Clean Printheads.”
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean and test the printheads.

4. Check Ink Levels

Although your cartridges are new, ensure they are not defective or empty due to any issue. Use the HP Smart app or your printer’s display to check ink levels.

5. Perform Diagnostic Reports

You can print a diagnostic page to check for any printhead issues.

  1. Select “Print Quality Diagnostic Report” from the printer app or printer's display.

6. Ensure Paper Quality

Ensure you are using the recommended paper type for your printer.

7. Perform Firmware Update (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues.

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Check for firmware updates and install if available.
