HP Envy 4500 e-All-In-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello!

For the past two days, my printer has been unable to scan documents through the scanning glass. No sweeping light or anything. Attempting to use the HP Scan app gives a 'Scanner Unreachable' error. I've attempted unplugging and replugging to the wall socket, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and using the HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.5.1 says I have a 'Driver Error'. The solution was to restart the computer, but that didn't work.

I've made sure the WIA was set to Automatic in the services. I tried disabling the firewall. I even tried removing the PrintConfig in the driver services tab. The 'Scanner Unreachable' error persists, and using the controls on the printer gives me a 'Connection Error', saying 'The computer is not responding.'

I'm running on Windows 10, and haven't updated the computer recently. Scanning is essential, and I've been racking my brain trying to figure this out. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I didn't do or check all that stuff but I did an run with "HP Print and Scan doctor 5.5.1" twice, and each time it resolved an issue. Then it asks if I want to perform a test scan, when I say yes, a pop-up tells me it can't find the printer/scanner. I also updated the firmware, to no avail. It seems to be a Windows problem

I found a solution for my HP Envy 4520 device.

Go to Device Manager and select Windows Imaging Agent WIA. Select your device under this tab. Uninstall the driver.

Reboot your PC and try to scan something. The WIA driver for your device will be re-installed automatically and continue the scan.

Again this worked for my Envy 4520 al-in-one printer. Hope it'll work for you too.
