Hello @BobBon77, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're able to print from your MacBook Pro to your HP Photosmart 5520, but the printer cannot "see" your Mac to send scans using the Scan to Computer feature.

Recommended Workarounds:

Use macOS Built-in Apps to Scan

You can still scan using your Mac, even if the printer can't initiate the scan:

  • Preview App:
    • Open Preview → Go to File > Import from Scanner.
  • Image Capture:
    • Open Applications > Image Capture.
    • Select your printer from the list and scan manually.

Enable Local Network Access

Make sure your Mac allows HP software to communicate:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Enable access for:
    • HP Scanner 3
    • HP Device Monitor
    • HP Utility (if listed)

Check Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Some models allow enabling "Scan to Computer" via the printer’s web interface:

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address in your browser.
  • Navigate to Scan > Scan to Computer and ensure it’s enabled.

Try HP Smart App (or HP App)

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
