Hi @Poggy2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 1512 is stuck in scan mode and is unresponsive, even after it indicates that the scan has been canceled. Let's try some steps to resolve this.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This can often resolve stuck processes.

Clear the Scan Queue

  • Open your scanning software on your computer and ensure that there are no pending or canceled scan jobs.
  • Restart both your computer and the printer to clear any communication issues.

Check for Software or Firmware Updates

  • Ensure that the HP software (HP Scan or HP Smart) on your computer is up to date. Sometimes software glitches can cause issues like this.
  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer from the HP Support website. Updating firmware can sometimes resolve stuck processes.

Try a Different Connection

  • If you are scanning over a USB connection, try another USB cable or port.
  • If scanning over Wi-Fi, try using a wired USB connection to see if the problem persists.

Reset the Printer’s Settings

  • Some HP printers have a way to reset to factory settings. This might be under the printer’s settings menu or in the HP software on your computer.
  • Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset, or check HP's support for model-specific instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
