HP Officejet 6700 Premium

First of all, Version 16.15.1 is absolutely fabulous.  I like the preview functionality and grab handles to detect edges.  I scan between 10 and 100 items every day and struggled a lot with the older software.  I had decided never to buy another HP scanner again.  I am on the market for a new scanner and, although an Epson V600 was recommended by colleagues, I will at least consider an HP device.  My only request would be to able set a default for the type of file I want the scan to be saved as.  A .pdf is the current default and I would love to change the default to jpg (or ,jpeg).  I have to manually change the file type to .jpg each time I save....

Again, my sincerest compliments!

Hi @ArnieJ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing your positive feedback about Version 16.15.1 of the HP scanner software! It's wonderful to hear that the new features like preview functionality and edge detection grab handles have significantly improved your scanning experience. It's especially gratifying to know that these improvements have made you reconsider HP as a viable option for your scanning needs.

Regarding your request to set a default file type for your scans, I understand how the ability to customize this setting could further enhance your workflow, especially when dealing with a high volume of scans daily. I can offer a couple of suggestions that might help in the meantime:

Check the Software Settings: Sometimes, software applications include hidden or less obvious settings that allow users to customize their experience more finely. If you haven't already, take a deep dive into the software's settings or preferences menu to see if there's an option to set the default file type for scans.

I have shared a link below. The steps will be the same for your printer too:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  Unfortunately, the default for saving scans is as a .pdf; no change in Settings is possible. Video is totally unrelated.

Hi Rachel,

I spoke with HP Smart technical staff and they confirmed that there is no way to set the default file saving format as .jpg.  The default is .pdf.  I will continue to set the file saving type as .jpg manually.   I asked them to relay customer feedback to their technical team asking them to consider adding that functionality in a future release of HP Smart.
