Exact same issue. Was working a few days ago and now says cannot communicate bla bla bla... have run Scan & Print Doctor and also tried virtual chat with HP support. I have a 40 year old Deskjet 3630. Live support expired unless I pay $$. Virtual chat says to make sure "digital imaging monitor" is active but the instructions for finding that on my Microsoft Surface Pro don't work. Frankly, I suspect I need to download a new "digital imaging monitor" but can't seem to find that anywhere to downloadit. Arrrgggg. Why do I feel like this is HP's way of luring me into buying a new printer? HA HA.

Sorry, not a 40 year old printer! I meant FOUR (4) year old.
