Hi @Edwardfotion,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue scanning your HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a has stopped scanning from the table to your computer running Windows 7, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Connections:

    • Ensure that all the cables between the printer and the computer are securely connected.
    • If you are using a USB connection, try using a different USB port on your computer.
  2. Restart Devices:

    • Restart both your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues.
  3. Update Drivers:

    • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your HP Officejet Pro 8600. Visit the HP official website, locate your printer model, and download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 7.
  4. Check for Windows Updates:

    • Ensure that your Windows 7 operating system is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, updates include fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
  5. HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP to troubleshoot printing and scanning problems. It can automatically fix many common issues.
  6. Check HP Printer Software:

    • Open the HP Printer Software on your computer and check for any error messages or notifications related to scanning. Follow any on-screen instructions to resolve issues.
  7. Firewall/Antivirus Software:

    • Check your firewall or antivirus software settings. Sometimes, they can block the communication between the printer and computer. Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus software and see if the scanning works. If it does, adjust the settings to allow the printer communication.
  8. Reinstall HP Software:

    • Uninstall the HP printer software from your computer and reinstall it. Make sure to follow the installation instructions carefully.
  9. Check Scanning Software:

    • If you are using specific scanning software, make sure it is configured correctly. Ensure that it recognizes the HP Officejet Pro 8600 as the default scanning device.
  10. Check Scanner Settings on the Printer:

    • On the printer's control panel, check the scanning settings. Ensure that the scan-to-computer feature is enabled and configured correctly.
  11. Try Another Scanning Application:

    • Test scanning using a different scanning application to see if the issue is specific to one software program.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
