The E5 error on your HP Smart Tank 720 printer indicates that the scanner is not working. To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the Power Cord: Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 Seconds: Allow the printer to remain disconnected for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the Power Cord: Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • Turn On the Printer: Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Try to Scan Again:

  • Reattempt to scan and check if the error persists.
