Hi @Cliff425,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9215e is attempting to scan multiple times a day without being prompted, it could be due to a few reasons such as scheduled tasks, stuck jobs in the printer memory, or network issues. Here are some steps to diagnose and fix this problem:

Steps to Fix Unprompted Scanning

Check Scheduled Tasks:

  • Ensure there are no scheduled scan tasks set up on the printer or any connected devices.
  • Open the HP Smart app or the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer’s IP address into a web browser.
  • Navigate to scan settings and check for any scheduled scan jobs. Disable or delete any that are unnecessary.

Clear Printer Memory:

  • Sometimes, a job can get stuck in the printer’s memory, causing it to repeatedly attempt the task.
  • Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on. This should clear any stuck jobs in the memory.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Firmware updates can fix bugs and issues that might cause unwanted behavior.
  • You can update the firmware via the HP Smart app or by downloading it from the HP support website.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Network issues can sometimes cause the printer to repeatedly attempt tasks.
  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Reconnect the printer to your network and check if the issue persists.

Kindly find the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Cliff425,

Please find the next steps below.

Check Connected Devices:

  • Make sure no computers or devices connected to the same network have automated scanning tasks set up.
  • Disconnect all devices from the network, except one, and monitor the printer to see if the issue occurs. This can help identify if a specific device is causing the problem.

Disable Web Services:

  • Sometimes, web services like HP ePrint or cloud-based services can cause the printer to behave unexpectedly.
  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Web Services Setup and disable web services.
  • Monitor the printer to see if the unprompted scanning stops.

Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, perform a factory reset to revert the printer to its default settings.
  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Note that this will erase all custom settings and configurations.

Additional Tips

  • Check for Malware: Ensure that none of your connected devices have malware that might be sending scan commands to the printer.
  • Monitor Printer Activity: Keep an eye on the printer’s activity log through the HP Smart app or EWS to identify any patterns or sources of the scan commands.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9215e attempting to scan multiple times a day.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be best to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
