Scanner problem. Message says scanner component is broken. Cannot be used to scan or copy.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e. The "Scanner Component is Broken" message typically indicates a hardware issue with the scanner unit. Let's try a few steps to confirm and possibly resolve the issue:

Power Reset the Printer

This can help clear temporary hardware glitches:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check if the error persists.

Check Scanner Bar Movement

  • Open the scanner lid.
  • Press the Copy button on the printer.
  • Watch the scanner light, does it illuminate and move across the glass?
    • If yes, the scanner hardware is likely okay.
    • If no movement or no light, the scanner hardware may be faulty and needs service.

Update or Reinstall Printer Software

Sometimes software conflicts can cause scanning issues:

  • Remove the printer from your computer’s Printers & Scanners settings.
  • Download and install the latest version of the HP Smart App.
  • Re-add your printer using the app and try scanning again.

Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click the Wrench icon (Windows) or Printer dropdown (Mac).
  • Select Diagnose & Fix and follow the prompts.

If the scanner bar doesn’t move or light up, the scanner hardware may be damaged. In that case, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
