Hi @LeoniMotshwere

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The "scanner is currently unavailable" message on your HP Smart Tank 530 can be frustrating, but don’t worry—here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Restart Devices

  • Turn off your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait for about 2-3 minutes, then power them back on in this order: router, printer, and computer.
  • Check if the scanner becomes available after restarting.

2. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Open the HP Smart app and verify the printer’s connection status. If it shows as offline, reconnect the printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer’s control panel.

3. Update Printer Firmware

4. Re-add the Printer in HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Remove the printer from the app by selecting it and choosing the Remove Printer option.
  • Re-add the printer by clicking Add Printer and following the setup instructions.

5. Run the HP Smart Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Use the Diagnose & Fix tool in the HP Smart app to identify and resolve any issues with the scanner.
  • This tool can automatically detect and fix common problems.

6. Test Scanning from Other Software

  • Try scanning using alternative software like Windows Fax and Scan or Preview (on macOS). If these work, the issue may be specific to the HP Smart app.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer:
    • Access the Setup Menu on the printer’s control panel.
    • Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
    • Reconfigure the printer after the reset.
