Hi @CLC80,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding scanner connection issues on an HP Envy laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Scanner Connections

Verify Cable Connections:

  • Ensure that the USB cable (if used) is firmly connected to both the scanner and laptop.
  • If using a network connection, make sure both the scanner and laptop are connected to the same network.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off both the scanner and the laptop, wait for a few seconds, and turn them back on.

Update Drivers and Software

Download Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and find drivers for your specific scanner model.
  • Download and install the latest scanner drivers compatible with your laptop’s operating system.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your laptop, which provides scanning capabilities and might resolve connectivity issues.

Verify Scanner Settings

Check Scanner in Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Look under the Imaging devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers for any entries related to the scanner.
  • If present, right-click and select Update Driver.

Reinstall Scanner Device:

  • If the scanner is listed, uninstall the driver and restart your computer. Windows may automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Run Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Under Additional troubleshooters, find Printer and run the troubleshooter even if your printer isn’t the issue, as it often addresses scanner issues as well.

Check Network Configuration (for networked scanners)

Firewall Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall settings permit scanner communications.

Network IP Address:

  • Verify the scanner’s IP address and ensure it matches the one recognized on your network. This can usually be checked via the printer’s display panel or user manual.
