I just bought a laserject pro MFP MA479fdw and apparently does not support ocr unless you use a third party. This is crazy need confirmation of this. What is an hp printer that will support ocr?

You need to install full feature software driver, and then install Readiris Pro 16 for HP, it's free from hp.com

Thanks for the reply but I am looking for a printer that would have ocr built in without the need of any software. Scan from printer with ocr searchable feature

Hi,

Such capabilities are offered by select HP Laserjet Enterprise printers, not by an Laserjet Pro printer.

 

For your printer you may use HP Scan or IRIS OCR Software to scan OCR, both options are provided with your printer software.

 

For HP Scan see below support document:

The HP Universal Scan Driver can be installed by using below link:

For IRIS Pro install IRIS OCR following the full feature software installation from below link:

What you ask is generally available on HP Lserjet or Officejet Enterprise products as described below, any such is not supported by your printer:
