@Wendyaccess, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is not copying from either the automatic document feeder (ADF) or the scanner glass, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet.
  3. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the power outlet.
  5. Turn on the printer and try copying again.

Step 2: Check for Paper or Obstructions

For the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):

  • Open the ADF lid and check for any paper debris or obstructions.
  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the ADF and the guides are adjusted to fit the paper size.

For the Scanner Glass:

  • Open the scanner lid and ensure the glass is clean and free from any dirt or smudges.
  • Make sure the document is placed face down on the scanner glass in the correct position.

Step 3: Update the Printer Firmware

Updating your printer's firmware can fix bugs and improve performance:

  • Go to the HP support website and navigate to the drivers and software section for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates.

Step 4: Check Printer Settings

  • Ensure that the printer settings are correct for copying documents.
  • Use the printer control panel to verify settings related to copy functions.

Step 5: Test with Different Originals

  • Try copying a different document to rule out issues with the document itself.
  • Test both the ADF and the scanner glass separately to identify if the issue is specific to one area.

Step 6: Perform a Power Cycle

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
