I can ping HP OfficeJet 8020 fine, and I can print fine. But when I try to scan a page by using HP Scan and Capture, even though the printed is reported connected, a message keeps saying device not found!!! What to do?

Hi @Athena19,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing issues with scanning using HP Scan and Capture despite being able to print and ping the HP OfficeJet 8020, there could be a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting both your computer and the printer can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software for your HP OfficeJet 8020 installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install any available updates.
  • Check Connection: Verify that your printer is connected to the same network as your computer and that both devices have a stable connection to the network.
  • Firewall/Antivirus: Check if any firewall or antivirus software on your computer is blocking the communication between the HP Scan and Capture software and the printer. Temporarily disable such software to see if it resolves the issue.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help diagnose and resolve printing and scanning issues. Download and run this tool to check for any problems with your printer.
  • Reinstall HP Scan and Capture: Try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Scan and Capture software on your computer to ensure that it's properly configured.
  • Reset Printer Network Settings: You can try resetting the network settings on your HP OfficeJet 8020 and then reconnecting it to your network.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your HP OfficeJet 8020 has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel menu or the HP website.
  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that your version of HP Scan and Capture is compatible with your operating system. If not, try using an alternative scanning software recommended by HP for your printer model.

None of those suggestions worked. I had to use the network version of the installation. That seems to have worked.
