Outside of the context of what you might have already tried to fix the problem, the answer is perhaps similar to that posted previously in answer to this question.

 

For example,

Pop-up messages that display on your screen are different from messages or errors that display as a result of configuring a task (for example, print job).

 

 

The following is relevant to print job submission using a supported printer model, and a supported version of Windows.

 

Possible reasons for this reaction when submitting a print job might include one or more of...

 

  • The full driver printer software is not installed.

OR

  • The full driver printer software is installed but is not fully functional (corruption of some kind).

Other reasons for "Printer thinks it is a fax"

 

  • The full driver printer software is installed and is functional and the Default Printer is not correct or is under the control of Windows.

 

  • The full driver is installed, is functional, and the default printer is selected -- the Printer in the job setup is pointed at the "fax driver" instead of the print driver.

 

  • Worth checking > Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver is not pointed to (selecting) the HP driver

Preparation > Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers and scanners

Scroll down > Switch OFF Let Windows manage my default printer

Scroll up > Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Set as Default

 

 

Windows 10

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver = HP driver and not the IPP / Microsoft driver.

 

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Select your installed printer from the list

Select Printer Properties

Open Tab Advanced

In the Driver section, verify / adjust to the HP driver
