Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

When I try to scan to computer either from the scanner or from the HP Scan app, it will fully scan it, then open the "save as" box in full screen. I cannot change the name or press anything. The window just disappears, and that scan is nowhere to be found. Also, when I open the HP Scan app to try and change the save file location for pdf scans, it freezes and closes as soon as I try to press the new file location or press submit. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail.

Hi @Riot509,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e scans successfully but the “Save As” window freezes and closes, and the HP Scan app crashes when you try to change the PDF save location. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), restart it, then try scanning again.

Reset the HP Smart / HP Scan app
Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps → HP Smart (or HP Scan).
Select Advanced options → Reset, then reopen the app and test scanning.

Check the default scan folder permissions
Open Documents → Scanned Documents (or your scan folder).
Right-click the folder → Properties → Security, and confirm your Windows user account has Full control.
Permission issues can cause the Save dialog to close unexpectedly.

Try scanning using Windows Scan
Open the Windows Scan app and scan to PDF.
If this works, it confirms the issue is specific to the HP scanning software rather than the printer.

Update printer and system drivers
Install the latest full-feature driver package for the OfficeJet Pro 8135e from the HP driver page.
Also run Windows Update, including optional updates.

Test with a different save location
When scanning, choose a simple path such as Desktop or Documents.
Network folders or protected locations can cause the save dialog to fail.

Important note:
Since the scan completes but the Save dialog closes and the app crashes when selecting a location, this is most commonly caused by:

Corrupted HP Smart / HP Scan configuration files

Windows folder-permission issues

A Windows imaging-service conflict

Less commonly, a graphics/UI rendering issue in the app

This is typically a software-side issue, not a printer or scanner hardware problem.

I hope this helps.

I tried every single one of those options. As for Microsoft Scan, there is no .pdf option unfortunately. I am at a loss.

Hi @Riot509,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few checks.

Step 1: Scan using Windows Fax and Scan to PDF

Open Windows Fax and Scan.

Select New Scan.

Scan the document.

Click File > Save As.

Select PDF as the file type and save to Documents.

Step 2: Reset Windows imaging components

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Restart Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).

Restart Shell Hardware Detection.

Restart the computer.

Step 3: Create a new scan destination folder

Open Documents.

Create a new folder named Scans.

Right-click the folder and confirm Full control under Security permissions.

Try scanning again using HP Scan.

I hope this helps.

Creating a new destination folder does not work because I cannot save anything that is scanned through HP scan and I've already tried to reset window Imaging nothing has worked

And again, Windows Scan does not offer a .pdf file type in save as or scan doc. type unfortunately.
