Hi @toadybill,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like the scanning function on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6869 printer has been disabled, possibly by someone who initially set up the printer or configured its settings. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

  • Check Printer Settings: Access the printer settings through its control panel or web interface (if available) and look for any settings related to scanning. Ensure that the scanning function is enabled.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues with printers. Turn off your printer, wait for a few moments, and then turn it back on.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up-to-date. You can usually find the latest updates on the HP website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Factory Reset: If you're unable to identify the issue, you might consider performing a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings to their defaults, so you'll need to reconfigure the printer afterward.
