I  moved to a new HP Windows 11 computer.  Although I can wirelessly print from my HP 6978 all in one printer, when I attempt a scan it does not offer pdf as an option.  I have downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat Reader and restarted both computer and printer but still no pdf option.  This worked before on my previous computer.

If your HP OfficeJet 6978 printer is not offering PDF as a scan option on your new Windows 11 computer, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

 

Install or Update HP Software:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart App installed. This app allows you to manage scanning options and includes features for saving scans as PDFs.
  • Download and install the HP Smart App from the Microsoft Store if you haven't done so already.

Check the Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer and scanner drivers installed for your HP printer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Use HP Scan Software:

  • Open the HP Smart App and navigate to the scan section.
  • In the scanning preferences, ensure to select "Save as PDF" as the file format. If this option is not visible, update your scanning software through the HP Smart App or HP Support Assistant.

Alternative Scanning Method:

  • You may also use Windows Fax and Scan, or third-party scanning software compatible with your printer, to scan and save documents as PDF.

Installation of Full Software Suite:

  • Ensure that the full feature HP software package has been installed, as it provides additional utilities and enhanced functionality compared to basic drivers.

Check Scanner Configuration:

  • Go to the scanner settings through the HP Smart App or Windows Settings to confirm that PDF is set as one of the default formats for saving scans.
