HP Photosmart C7280
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Suddenly, the scanner function has ceased to work.  It performs the scan, and the scanned document does appear in the preview, but it is a blackened image.  I ordered a used replacement lamp on eBay and installed same, but I receive the same result.  I am thinking that a capacitor might have gone bad; I replaced one on the board several years ago, which solved a different error message.  But, all of the capacitors "look" okay.  Does anyone have any thoughts where I might go from here?

I have read the posts about the incompatibility of HP Easy Scan with the new Mac OS, but I don't believe that this is the problem.  The workaround using Image Capture does not work either.  I have run a scan from a Windows 10 platform, and I get the same blackened picture.  I believe that the problem is with the printer/scanner.  I downloaded HP Print Doctor onto the Windows 10 computer, and that proved useless.  It kept telling me to update the printer software, which I did, but then it would tell me to update the software again - a vicious circle.  I was hoping the Print Doctor might check the scanning circuits to see if one was not functioning correctly, but I couldn't even get that far.
