Hi @Sue823683,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The Error 41 on HP printers is part of the 41.xx family of errors, which usually indicates a paper mismatch or unexpected paper type/size issue. This means the printer thinks the paper loaded does not match the settings in the printer or the print driver.

Fix for Error 41

  1. Check Paper in the Tray
    • Make sure the tray has the correct size and type of paper.
    • Adjust the paper guides so they align with the markings in the tray (not too tight).

  2. Verify Printer Settings
    • On the printer control panel, confirm the paper size and type match what is loaded.
    • Example: If you loaded A4 plain paper, set the tray to A4 plain.

  3. Check Print Driver Settings
    • On your computer, open the print dialog.
    • Ensure the paper size and type in the driver match the tray settings.

  4. Clear Static or Stuck Sheets
    • In low humidity, sheets can stick together and confuse sensors.
    • Remove the stack, fan the paper, and reload.

  5. Restart the Printer
    • Turn the printer off and back on to clear the error.

  6. If Error Persists
    • Run the Tray/Bin manual sensor test (found in the
      diagnostics menu).
    • If the sensor fails, HP recommends contacting support for possible DC controller replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
